September catch up

September pics...

Pretty blessed to have these little bundles of cuteness/joy/fun (& sometimes trouble) in our lives!

Parker wanted to take a pic since we were all matching in our red bottoms.... Plus Mom was actually out of bed and dressed! :) Okay in all actuality, anyone who knows me well, knows that I could be on my death  bed and I would still manage to shower and wear makeup. I never skip a day... ever. :) Maybe a little bit OCD... maybe a little bit vain...I say just very hygienic and possibly a little bit frightened of the alternative staring back at me in the mirror...;) Getting ready for the day always makes me feel better about life. Always. :)

My birthday came and went mid September.
I think that I have the best birth date in the whole world. Don't ask me why, I just do.  :)
(Maybe because I love the fall so much...)
Then again, maybe everyone feels that way about their birthday?
My cute husband and kids brought me home this perfect tiny cake and - my favorite- polkadot balloons, in two of my favorite colors. I was still really taking it easy and cannot remember for the life of me what we did to celebrate (or what I got?)? Oh my sad little mind... I think that we maybe went out to dinner just the five of us? Then later in the month my Dad and Melissa threw me such a nice birthday party/dinner. Melissa asked me what my favorite dessert was and I of course said cookies... so she made me a giant chocolate chip cookie layered ice cream cake! SO cute (and so delicious!) and so nice! We also celebrated with the Hansens at the end of the month, along with Becky's end-of-the-month b-day.

These cute girls love to play house in the toy room in the basement. Emmie loves to put Lexi "down for naps" (hence the doll blankets) on their mini couch, and Lexi goes right along with it. Love those cute girls!

Emmie started dance in September. Again. She took a hiatus from it last year, but we started it again in September. We carpool with two of her cute friends and Emmie really likes it... that is when she's not day dreaming and actually watches so she knows what to do!....what a dreamer girl she is! And maybe just a bit ADD...I find she does a lot better (in everything) when I am consistently giving her her chewy fish oil vitamins. There is research showing that it really helps kids who have a hard time paying attention, and I notice it really does make a difference for her.

Parker is doing great in 1st Grade! I love to read his little essays. :)

This little one loves her babies. Any and all of them. She has the cutest little bounce ever when she "rocks" them. I LOVE this two year old!!
As I was starting to have days where I was beginning to feel somewhat better, I really REALLY was craving to go to my favorite place - the Thanksgiving Point Gardens and spend quality time with my favorite foursome, and do something I love (but am not great at) - take a few pictures!

Seriously love this place! I could stay there all day. We took a picnic dinner and it was heaven. :)
I hadn't been outside much in 6 or 7 weeks so it was sooo nice to breathe in the fresh air and take in the beauty of my surroundings. It was also the first exercise I had attempted since failing my stress test with oxygen dropping to the mid 60's. I had a little bit of a hard time breathing here and there but overall it was fine.

Just beyond grateful for this sweet fam of mine! I don't know what I did to be so blessed but I feel pretty darn lucky that they are mine. All four of them. :)

Rainbow Party!

Emmie's birthday was in late August and she'd been talking about her "Rainbow" party for months. Even though I'd been so sick and on bedrest, I knew that if she didn't have her party that she'd be crushed. We ended up throwing her a very low key, last minute party (invites went out on Saturday, and the party was the following Tuesday) & I was just grateful that I'd done most of the planning for it as I was planning Parker's the month before, so I had most of the things I needed for it. I felt bad for not inviting the boys she is friends with (we are surrounded by lots of little boys) but  I knew I couldn't handle that many kids...plus it was a rainbow party... girly, right?

The Birthday Cutie!
I can't believe she is five!

The party guests! (minus cute Emily who wasn't there yet)

The decor

Chris took the day off to help me... I couldn't have done it without him! It was really simple though and these cute girls made it so easy - they are so great!

 The activities...
Lunch, decorating piñata bags, piñata smashing...

Bingo, with fruit loops of course. :)
(Um, bingo is a huge hit with 5 year olds!)

...Present opening...
I honestly love each of these cute girls so much! They all live closeby and we've carpooled either to dance, preschool, or gymnastic on top of many playdates...also I teach a handful of them in Primary at church...not only do I love each of them so much but I adore their amazing moms! Seriously all of them! One of whom sewed Emmie the cutest apron ever (top left) and gave a cookbook to go with... so fun and thoughtful!: :)

Watching them play together like this made my heart so happy... possibly one of the cutest scenes ever. :)

I couldn't pass up making a rainbow cake. :) Cotton candy for the clouds!
Would have made them fluffier but didn't realize we had bought multi colored cotton candy and ran out of blue.

I was soooo glad that we went ahead and went through with the party... and I'm pretty sure she was, too! I think her face says it all! :)

Emmie's 5th Birthday

Emmie's 5th Birthday
landed on her second day of school. So in true Hansen tradition, we woke up early, and she opened up her presents Christmas style, in her pajamas. She was excited to get a Razor scooter like Parker's (okay, his isn't pink); a clock that she had been obsessed with for the last six months from Hobby Lobby; a purse, bracelets and high heels sent from Grandma Jane and Gpa Reed; a Doc McStuffins doctor kit, & some movies and books... to name a few. I was grateful like always for Amazon so that I could do all the shopping from the luxury of my bed (aside from the clock which I had Chris pick up!).
She also got those princess barbies from Gma and Gpa Hansen the previous Sunday at a combined  party where we celebrated Great Gma Lonczyna's 95th Birthday, as well as Emmie's and Aunt Bethany's.
That was the first outing I had been on for a month, besides doctor visits and hospital trips. :)
She was excited to bring birthday treats to give her class at school, and her cute teacher adorned her with this purple crown, knowing (already) that the B-Day Girl's favorite color is PURPLE. :)

Emmie always chooses to go to the water park, Cowabunga Bay, for her birthday activity. I obviously couldn't make it, but Chris took she and Parker a few days before her birthday and I hear they had a great time :).

Next up we threw her a last minute friend party....

First Day of School

Well, as to be expected, life went on even while I was dealing with these health issues. :)

It may be almost Christmas, but  better late than never to mention that these two cuties started back to school in late August! :)
Our Preschooler and big First Grader
I always loved the beginning of a new school year when I was growing up! New clothes, new opportunity for more new friends, new classes, new experiences, a whole new, fresh start!
Watching my own kids now go through this is really fun.
I'm not sure who was more excited and nervous this year - them or me...
After a very lame last four weeks of summer due to me being down in bed, I was grateful that they'd be getting back to a little controlled structure, but meanwhile felt really guilty for the way their summer ended and all the fun things I had hoped to do that we missed out on.
Oh well, sometimes you just can't help these things!

It's been a whole new experience for me to have this little guy gone all day at school. I admit, I shed a few tears on his first day as I realized this was just the beginning of a whole new stage of life (that will last likely another 18 years) for him. He's growing up and the fact that he has a good 6 1/2 hours a day that I'm not a part of is a whole new concept for me. He is doing great though... he isn't shy at all about jumping in and making new friends (which he's done), he loves recess (what kid doesn't?) and he's reading on a 3rd grade level. I'm super grateful that his teacher is on board with keeping him challenged & we're happy with how the year is going for him.

This little one is in her second year of preschool. Technically, she could have started Kindergarten this year, but with her birthday just barely making the deadline, she would have been the very youngest in her class. My birthday is just 3 weeks later (just missing the deadline), and I LOVED being one of the oldest in my grade. I think there's so many advantages later on and I've never met a person who has regretted that decision for their child. (Plus this keeps she and P two years apart in school, since we did the same for him.) Her preschool this year is just 4 1/2 hours a week... I wish it were a tiny bit longer, but she is loving it. The school is renowned for their reading program and although we LOVED the preschool at the elementary school last year that she went to, they don't teach reading (they won't teach above what they will in Kindergarten - so lame), so we went with this one (P went here his 2nd yr of preschool too). She really is learning to read, we adore her teacher, and she is doing a great job! We carpool with 3 other friends and do a playdate with them afterwards once a week. It works out so nicely. She is also doing gymnastics and dance so Friday is her only real "day off".

And as for Miss Lexi, she is not without school herself...  Emmie is really sweet (most of the time) with Lex and loves to "teach" her school during the day. Lexi is SUCH a good little sport and does pretty much whatever her "teacher" asks of her. It's so fun to watch them play and I am grateful they have time to  really bond with each other during the day this year. :)

Medical mystery cliff notes!!!

Seriously, I know no one actually reads this blog anymore... everyone has moved on to way cooler things like Instagram! I am totally in the minority but I still believe in blogging! But just in case, to save even one person a little time, here are some cliff notes as to my last blog post. Who in the world would want to sit and read that (especially with how I ramble) I don't know - but let me save time....here ya go! :)

After passing out with big time heart palpitations, shortness of breath, and vertigo at 2:30 a.m. on July 23rd, I had:

  • 4 abnormal EKGs indicating a possible heart attack
  • Blood test confirmed no heart attack, but possible blood clot 3 days later... CT scan confirmed no blood clot
  • Unexplained pulse rate that would shoot through the roof upon standing
  • Failed a treadmill test turning gray  with oxygen levels dropping to 64 ( below 90 is abnormal)
  • Weeks of bed rest as cardiologist told me I might have a stroke, plus I was so out of it my body was not functioning properly I could hardly do anything due to ongoing chest pain, extreme vertigo ( I felt as though I were spinning ALL.THE.TIME!), and shortness of breath just in the littlest of activity (like walking to the bathroom).
  • Echo cardiogram confirmed small hole in my heart... but doctors weren't positive it's what was causing all my symptoms...next step would be heart catheterization but since I was starting to feel somewhat better after there was finally talk of this we elected not to...for now
  • Bounced around to lots of specialists... lots of waiting, lots of bedrest, LOTS of terrible vertigo, memory problems, on and off chest pain continued, shortness of breath...
  • One really huge low was having home health deliver oxygen tanks to my house and having to be on oxygen... it was devastating to say the least.
  • Finally a big break through: The Pulmonologist sent me to an ENT who ordered testing for my vertigo, which found that my inner ear had been thrown off... likely due to lack of blood flow to the brain the night I passed out. Not an explanation as to WHY I passed out but a big explanation as to why I was having the ongoing, horrible vertigo... it really messed me up! As a result, I started Vestibular physical therapy with an AWESOME PT who taught me techniques that retrained my brain as to it's new normal after having my inner ear thrown out of whack. Finished (well still doing it at home) with him and after 2 months this has helped me immensely! Still in the works but SO grateful to have figured that out! Who knew that the inner ear could mess you up so bad? I couldn't see clearly, I couldn't take in very much info without my brain feeling completely overwhelmed... it was so, SO awful! Just a piece of a larger puzzle of this crazy medical saga, but a HUGE piece to finally have solved!
Still not feeling "normal" but so much better, the week before Thanksgiving I went to my newly established general physician, who did a thorough blood work up on me (which I swear they did at the hospital, but apparently it wasn't thorough enough)... found that I had severely low levels of Vitamin D (most people are deficient), Omega 3 and Iodine... also found out this week after extensive hormone testing that I am really low in a few hormones, including Progesterone, which can cause lots of problems, including heart issues. The doctor doesn't think these deficiencies CAUSED any of these problems starting back in July, but definitely could have contributed to them.

SO gratfeul to finally have a good doctor and to be figuring some of these things out... and SO glad after FOUR AND A HALF MONTHS(!) to finally be feeling like I'm actually going to make it through this. Feeling so awful for so long was so frustrating, and after being told that I possibly had a fatal illness, Pulmonary Hypertension (the only diagnosis that my symptoms perfectly matched up with), it was pretty scary for a while. We still don't have ALL the answers, like for sure what made me pass out that night, but for now I'm just so grateful to be on the upswing and so grateful for the time I have been given with my cute family. I'm ready to move on and I'm looking forward to feeling healthy for the holidays, and to even maybe catch up on this dang blog so that I can remember these important experiences, called LIFE. :)

Happy Holidays everyone!

Medical mystery...a jumbled rambling of the saga

**This is waaaay too long for anyone to actually read, and is really just for the benefit of my journal! I'll post a hopefully shorter rundown so don't waste your time... unless you really want to. ;)

This last four and a half months since passing out in July have been some of the most startling, frustrating, and humbling of my life. So much has happened, and not happened,  & I have been urging myself to write it all down, especially since my memory is so inadequate, but the task has just seemed so overwhelming. And overwhelmed has probably been the #1 adjective of this experience.  I started a detailed post about all the play by plays of all the crazy health issues that have come up for me since that night but finishing it just seems like too much. Complete resolution hasn't come and I have accepted that it likely won't... however, after never ending visits to all kinds of doctors and being put through countless tests, we've found many pieces of this crazy puzzle. Meanwhile, I have so many other happier  things I want to journal about (like my kids!) and I just want to get this done. So here is just (hopefully) a brief overview of what took place that night and the saga that has dragged on through the months.

July 23rd 2:30 (ish) a.m.

I awoke to find my head wedged between the small space of the toilet and the wall. Feeling as though I literally might drop dead any minute due to not just thundering palpitations  but the feeling like my heart would thump itself right out of my chest, even in my groggy state of mind, I felt I didn't have time to waste. I could hardly breathe and I still felt as though I were spinning, and I felt super nauseous. All I could think was that I needed to find Chris and get help fast. I honestly don't know how I had any strength to semi-stand, but suddenly I felt as though someone were pulling me up, even though no one was there.

*Later, in relaying this incident to my Dad who had been on a trip to CA, he asked me about what time this took place. I told him and he said that within an hour or so of my fainting that very night, he had a very vivid dream that my brother, (who passed away several years ago) and I had had a really detailed conversation. He said that his dream was so lifelike that he woke up from it and couldn't go back to sleep the rest of that night and paced in anticipation of finding out what we had talked about, since the dream had felt so real.
I'm not sure that it's pure coincidence that we each had these experiences on the exact same night, about the exact same time...I like to think that Michael really was there, pulling me up. :)

I crawled my way around and out of the bathroom. I was relieved to see Chris and I collapsed in his arms and fell to the floor once again. He had apparently been in with the baby,  went downstairs to grab something, had heard me fall and came running. I remember thinking clearly in my head what I wanted to tell him, about what had happened, how I felt as though I needed help asap, but I couldn't verbalize much for about 30 minutes. I was so frustrated that I couldn't make my words come out. All I could say between my bursts of breath were, "Help me" and "My heart!". I remember thinking we needed to get the hospital NOW, but he wasn't for sure what to do - it was 2:30 a.m., we had three kids asleep in bed, and he had no idea if I had just simply passed out, or if something was really wrong.... neither of us love to inconvenience people so I'm sure he didn't want to bother people at 3 a.m. There is no question if it had happened during the day that we would have rushed to the hospital.  My breathing finally stabilized some and my heart eventually slowed down.  It's all a bit of a blur but after (another two hours or so?) I finally was able to fall back asleep.

I stayed in bed for the next two days. I would have gone to the Dr. that day, but it was a Utah holiday, the 24th of July and after calling around I realized no one was open. I really wasn't sure what happened had warranted an ER visit (& bill) so I just stayed in bed for the next two days. Plus Chris had to go to work and I definitely didn't feel like I could drive, let alone walk down the stairs. Chris dropped the kids off at the Hansens and I was able to stay in bed.  I was absolutely exhausted, felt as though I had run a marathon and any time I moved from my bed I would have a slew of crazy symptoms.

Still feeling terrible on the 26th, I went to an Instacare. After summing up the episode to some sort of nerve (vagal?) that can cause fainting, she wanted to do an EKG- just in case. The nurse did it, left the room baffled and came back again to redo it. After doing it a total of 4 times, the last time by the Dr., she told me that it was indicating that I may have had a recent heart attack and to go the hospital immediately for a blood test to confirm. The test result came back negative but she told me to stay down until I could get into a cardiologist.

That was just the beginning of an onslaught of Dr and hospital visits, and tests. At the ER after experiencing way too much chest pain the following Sunday, the doctors  thought I had a blood clot (indicated by an abnormal blood test), which brought on a CT scan of my head and torso, which came back clear. My pulse would shoot through the roof upon standing. I had strong chest pain for months on end. I did a treadmill stress test the following week and my oxygen dropped to 64 (normal is 90 and above) and the cardio PT insisted I must have a hole in my heart. They put me on more bed rest until I could get an echocardiogram with saline bubbles the following week. More waiting. This confirmed a small shunt (hole) in my heart, but Dr.'s weren't completely  convinced it had caused all my continued trouble. I literally spent about 5 weeks on mostly bedrest. They told me I might have a stroke so not to do much, especially lift anything. The night of my failed stress test I could hardly breathe, and they had Home Health deliver oxygen tanks to my home. That was such a low for me. I remember thinking, "What in the world is happening to me?!" as the Home Health guy set me up on the oxygen tanks in my bedroom. For at least the next 10 days or so my body wasn't great at breathing on it's own and I relied on the oxygen big time. It was as though my body would forget to breathe on it's own if I wasn't consciously thinking about it. It was such an awful feeling and something the doctors once again couldn't explain.  My brain felt like scrambled eggs and just the act of walking to the bathroom brought on shortness of breath and chest pain. Just lying in bed I felt like I was spinning but to get up and walk, the vertigo was unbearable. I couldn't watch TV (very little), it was just too much for my brain to take in and forget about reading. I couldn't focus and it was as though my brain was overwhelmed to just sit there... adding any sort of stimulation was just too much. At an ER visit, the on-call pulmonologist thought I had Pulmonary Hypertension, a fatal diagnosis. We had already looked at this as a possibility because it was the only thing that exactly explained all of my symptoms. This of course devastated me and the I couldn't help the thoughts that I might not live to see my kids grow up. So dramatic but the possibilities were just overwhelming and even moreso was the fact that my symptoms just continued to persist for weeks and even months, with no for sure explanation, and Pulmonary Hypertension was the only one that totally explained all of my symptoms. I couldn't drive my kids to school for weeks and didn't hit the grocery store for even longer. I could barely function. At a follow up with the pulmonologist (who was baffled like many of the specialists I saw), he referred me to an ENT to assess my persistent vertigo. I thought that I knew what dizzy was before this experience, but I had no idea! IT. WAS. AWFUL to have this crazy vertigo (accompanied often with shortness of breath and chest pain) permeate my body. I finally saw the ENT who I had zero faith in to help me (I mean come on, an ear nose and throat doctor was going to solve this mystery?), his findings however were some of the most relieving that we have received in this whole process.  He ordered more tests which brought on even more waiting - the story of my life. 2 weeks later I had the vestibular testing done at the hospital that he had ordered in Provo and it was found that my INNER EAR had been thrown off - one 20% off from the other. This likely happened the night I passed out, by lack of blood flow to the brain. Some doctors believe though that it and the fainting incident itself happened due to some crazy virus (that they could never name). Finding out the likely culprit of the vertigo was SUCH a blessing!!! So I was sent to a vestibular physical therapist who I saw for about 6 weeks and who taught me PT movements to do (quick head movements) to retrain my brain as to it's new normal. The inner ear is what controls your whole vestibular (balance system). So strange, I know, but if the inner ear is thrown off, so is your whole brain, and it can cause an onslaught of problems, especially of course the vertigo, the blurriness of vision I was having, inability to think clearly, memory issues, etc etc. It pretty much can make you feel AWFUL! My physical therapist, Quinn, was amazing and lucky for me an expert in vestibular diseases. I know he's not an official "Dr.", but he was one of the most knowledgeable, helpful healthcare professionals I have seen in those whole saga. I am so grateful for the help he gave me and  after about 8 weeks of therapy to finally have MOST of my vertigo cleared up. I finished with him in November and I still feel far from normal but I will take this any day over what I experienced for months on end!

So as to what actually caused the passing out in the first place, we don't know for sure. Maybe the hole in the heart, that was accentuated with a little stress at the time... some doctors say I had a virus ( I think this is code for "we don't know")... I still worry a little that something with my heart has been overlooked... I mean, I DID have four abnormal EKG's on top of the small shunt (hole), plus I had a scary incident with my heart with my 2nd pregnancy. The next step would have been to do a heart catheterization test (which is horrifying - I watched a video on it- they can't put you out for it and it's a very bloody procedure), but after about 8 weeks I was starting to feel somewhat better (minus the vertigo), so we along with the doctor decided it wasn't a good idea to do something that invasive when I felt I was improving.

After I finished up the PT in Nov, I went back to my newly established general physician who did a slew of extensive blood tests on me. I have had recurrent UTI infections through this whole process. We also found that I was severely deficient in Iodine, Omega 3, and Vitiman D (everyone is deficient in this unless they work outside all day or take supplements). And just this week we received word after some hormone testing that I am really low in several hormones, one of which is progesterone, which can cause... yes - heart problems! I am going to start some therapy for those in a few weeks. (BTW, I highly recommend that women get a full hormone work up done- it can answer so many things including weight issues, fertility issues, memory problems, palpitations, moodiness(of course)....) The doctor still doesn't think that these explain everything that has happened, including and especially my low oxygen, but that they are another piece of the puzzle. And I am happy to have answers to any pieces that I can correct!!

SO after four and a half months I finally am feeling so much better! I am hopeful to feel all the way better soon and hopefully I will after I start this other therapy.

I am grateful for the beautiful life that I have been given and am so grateful for my husband and sweet kids, and for more time with them. For a while, it was kind of up in the air. I guess it's truly always "up in the air" though, isn't it? We just never know how much time we have. I'm grateful for the opportunity to live "normally" again and to not take for granted the many blessings I've been given!

I'm grateful to have finally written this down, even if it is a rambled mess that doesn't make much sense. It's better than nothing though and I'm ready to blog about more important things! :)

All Star Party

My kids love birthday parties.
They love to go to them, love to throw them.
 Especially Parker.
They wait all year long for their birthdays  and put their orders in for their next party about 364 days in advance. No joke. Not because we throw amazing parties over here (we don't), but because they just adore their friends. I have tried to get them to skip and have friend parties every other year, but the whining devastation they exhibit at this probability is more than I can take - it's their birthday afterall and I want them to love their day!
It's the least I can do if it makes them feel so special. :)
This year my little Mr. Party Planner put in his detailed request for a
"Red White and Blue Sports Party"...:
& that's what he got. :)

Our SEVEN-year-old All Star!

The Décor
I probably wouldn't bother because I realize after seven years of kids that a bunch of seven year olds could care less about decorations, except that beginning months in advance I have this little blondie asking me,
"Mom, why aren't you buying/making my party decorations yet?".
So to him, it matters, and as for me... I may have a love/hate relationship with the party planning process. :) In that moment that it all comes together, I love it. Mid-way through, not so much. I have learned however over the years how to simplify the planning, so really this wasn't anything that took an unreasonable amount of effort.
Okay so maybe my husband may not concur with that statement after I made him cut up and duct tape over a dozen pool noodles into rings for the relay (after I drove across town and bought out the only dollar store that still carried them)....but hey, besides that it really was fun and simple.:)
Besides anything great requires a little hard work, right?

Relays, present opening, half time breaks, pizza for lunch...
"pool noodle soccer" was a big hit!

As  always, a piñata was included in the celebrations!
I couldn't help but sneak in a pic of  Emmie with her so-called boyfriend, with whom she is still scheming her
"Happily Ever After".
Her sweet 5-year-old little heart is pretty convinced that he's
 The One. :)
Sorry all other boys.
This 5 year old is taken. ;)

I think Parker had a great time at his party which in my book spells success! He adores his friends and they made him feel super loved by coming to celebrate his big day with him. I'm so grateful to pretty much live in the best neighborhood around with all these awesome little guys right on our street (most of them) for him to grow up with!

So, the party was over and like any mom after hosting 13 little boys, I was ready to collapse...
and I did just that.
Literally.
In the middle of that night, I woke up aware that my body was having a serious problem. Short of breath,  experiencing extreme heart palpitations and vertigo, I wondered if I was having a heart attack or stroke. Feeling sick to my stomach, I got out of bed,  & somehow stumbled my way to the bathroom. Everything went black and I passed out cold...

SEVEN

This little blondie turned SEVEN in late July!

He wasn't always a blondie...

He originally came to us a red head.
 Like his Pops.
And our pup.

Here's the proof.
It's too bad he wasn't cute back then.;)
When he arrived I remember thinking to myself,
"Oh, here we go- the beginning of my little tribe of redheads!".
But he fooled us!
After his first haircut at nine months old the red was gone forever!

Oh, how seeing these pictures from our old (and first) house makes me miss our Arizona days.
Those were some good times!

Back to the 7 year old Birthday Boy...

It's tradition that the kids get to choose a family birthday outing on their big days. Parker always chooses Boondocks, and E Cowabunga Bay.
So the morning of P's birthday(a Monday), we headed to Boondocks for a little celebrating....if you can call it that.
Somehow, within an hour of being there, both girls had numerous screaming, crying meltdowns. As Lexi was kicking and rolling around screaming on the floor by the arcade (furious that she was too little for the kiddie land) while we waited for the boys to ride the slick track, I was seriously regretting our decision to all come especially since I had loads of things to do at home to prepare for P's friend party the next morning... when over walks Emmie, out of the playland, sopping wet.... and dripping in pee!
FABULOUS.
(My regretful thoughts were confirmed in that moment!)
I could feel the stares of horror from the other parent's boring a hole into the back of my head (whose kids were crawling around in now pee-marked kiddie land).
AWE-SOME.
Frozen in horror, and doing my best to avoid all eye contact with the rightfully disgusted parents as my four year old dripped urine all over the floor, and my out of control toddler thrashed around in hysterics next to me (trust me, acknowledging her makes it worse and picking her up can result in serious scratch injuries to my face), I frantically began texting my husband wondering how the slick track could possibly take five hours, with virtually no line. Finally they reappeared and we resolved to all go home, and Chris and P would come back in late afternoon to complete P's day of fun in peace -- exactly the way it probably should have started - just the two of them!:)
Crazy kids.

So off we went and opened presents

and made cupcakes while putting together finishing touches for the next day's party.

P was sooo excited for his new legos (this is his first time having Legos that aren't the bigger Duplo kind), beyblades, and the new Wii game Pikmin (to be mailed the following week - after it's release date).

That night we were off to the Hansens (I forgot my camera!) where we did fireworks and had some more celebrations!
And that was just the beginning of a wild, unexpected week!!!
Next up -  A Sports Party with 13 little boys!

Red, White and Blue 2013

Fourth of July church digs!

Our kids look forward to the annual neighborhood bike parade for months.

This year was no exception. It's a pretty big deal to this little crew!

That night, we had a block party with our neighbors, and then due to firework restrictions we went to a nearby park that was allowing our neighborhood/area to light off fireworks there, while monitored by the Fire Department. It was the most interesting night of fireworks I have ever seen. There were sooo many of them, all in one place. I was having a hard time breathing with all the smoke so I was pretty glad when we left, but we had a fun time!

June and July Randoms

Emmie is obsessed with wearing these church shoes.
When I try to explain to her that they go best with a dress, and not even all her dresses, & that she has better options for most of her outfits, she tells me,
"But I just like the way they SOUND!".
Apparently, they "click".

And clicky shoes sound like big girl high heels.
This girl is 4 going on 17 I swear!

Lexi FINALLY got her very first haircut at 21 months old!

She had a few chunky pieces of her newborn hair (aka rattails!) that were halfway down her back, so it was about time.
(Not usually noticeable because of her waves)

(Took better pics with a real camera the next day)
I love the natural curl her hair dries with.

Once in awhile the picture taker has to jump into the picture too!

A good majority of our summer was spent at swim lessons during June and July. Four weeks of them, every day! It was a lot, especially in 100 degree heat, but the kids did good. I've never heard of kids loving swim lessons as much as mine do. No, they still can't swim, despite what they will tell you, but are getting closer. Parker has automatic ADHD and deafness once he hits the water and I couldn't get him to look up for a picture. But Emmie and  my side-watcher, Lex were happy to pose.

We made it over to one of our favorite community pools one night after swim lessons. The kids love this place and Lexi loved it too but almost gave me a heart attack with her bravery. Why are my kids not afraid of anything?!? I take that back, Parker is deathly afraid of bees. :) I don't know where he gets it from;).
A few days after swim lessons ended, Emmie had a severe ear infection. We took her in to find out she actually had a staph infection from Swimmer's Ear. She pretty much screamed in pain for the next week, and on top of it she had some sort of bad cold which she was put on antibiotics for. She temporarily lost some of her hearing as a result and the poor thing couldn't hear a word we would say to her. For a while I was worried that it would stick! So there was another week of our summer hit by sickness.

This little girl spent some time at the Dr. too..... after trying to bulk her up for four months, it was time to get her bone scan and blood work done. The phlebotomists were bracing themselves for screaming but Lex surprised us all by not making a single peep as her blood was taken, thanks to the distraction of her very first sucker! Thank goodness for the magic effect of a little sugar once in a while! We actually just got her test results back last Friday (fast forward 6 weeks) and the only thing off  on her tests was her growth hormone. However, sometimes it can be off just due to low weight... which is likely to be why. She could also really be lacking growth hormone, we will just have to see with time.  So unless she has major growth delay issues around three or four years old, we won't be needing the endocrinologist again! She's gained one pound since her last appointment in February (not too impressive), but THREE inches in height! YAY!!! Still tiny, but tiny isn't not so bad when you're a girl, right? :) Plus it's made it much easier for me to tote her around, probably a blessing in disguise!!
One of my favorite things this threesome does is their Cha Cha train around the house. Parker and Emmie are so good to their little sis and they know she LOVES this little number so they do it often. I love watching Lex shuffle to keep up with them!

So there's half of our summer! The rest has thrown us a few crazy curve balls, but we are trying to handle them the best we can... More on that later (hopefully!).
